Clearing Exterior Obstructions From Your Heat Pump

Air intake and moisture drainage are important aspects of an HVAC system, and often not things that people check regularly. Ideally you'd do this twice a month, but luckily it only takes a second.

The most important thing is to make sure there is no vegetation within two feet of the unit. When tall grass or other plants crowd the unit it can blog up air intake and cause issues. As we discussed in other articles about air conditioner maintenance, the unit's ability to pull the proper amount of air through it is crucial to running effectively and, to a lesser degree, to the unit's lifespan.

It's also important to ensure the drainage hole is clear. You can find it under the cabinet base. If the opening is too small to clean easily, you can use a paperclip to clear it out. Or better yet, contact us for a spring tune up!
